A majority of PKR division leaders in Negeri Sembilan had penned a letter to party president Anwar Ibrahim to oppose Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun's appointment as the PKR state chief.
In the letter dated Dec 16 sighted by Malaysiakini, the division leaders cited his “weakness in administration”.
"Our first letter dated Dec 13 clearly showed that seven out of eight divisions rejected the leadership of Aminuddin as the PKR's state chief," read the letter.
The division leaders who signed the letter were Rosli Omar (Kuala Pilah), Karip Mohd Salleh (Jempol), Ahmad Azam Hamzah (Seremban), Ismail Ahmad (Rasah) and Yus Mazmi Mohamad Yusuf (Jelebu).
Contacted by Malaysiakini, Yus Mazmi and Rosli Omar, who is also the Juasseh state assemblyperson, declined to comment.
The menteri besar, who is also the Tampin division chief, is seen as a supporter of former vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
However, a source told Malaysiakini that the issue has been resolved following a meeting with Anwar.
"In that meeting, we proposed to name state executive councillor Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek (photo below) as state chief.
"We wanted Rafie to ease Aminuddin's burden by taking care of party matters, while the menteri besar, who is reported to have health issues, can concentrate on administering the state," said the source on condition of anonymity.
However, the source noted that it is the prerogative of the party president to appoint state chiefs.
It was reported that Aminuddin underwent a heart surgery on Oct 29 and was readmitted to hospital on Nov 8 after being diagnosed with excessive phlegm.
Apart from rejecting Aminuddin as the state chief, the division leaders also objected to Rafizi being nominated as a senator.
The letter stated that the division leaders preferred Karip instead.
Yus Mazmi confirmed with Malaysiakini that the grassroots preferred Karip over Rafizi, who had failed to unseat incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali in the recent party polls.
Malaysiakini reported yesterday that Negeri Sembilan PKR had yet to decide on the senator post as the grassroots opposed to Aminuddin's choice - Rafizi.
The Negeri Sembilan state assembly is expected to table a motion on Wednesday to nominate two candidates for senatorship.
Yesterday, Anwar's daughter, Nurul Izzah, had resigned as PKR vice-president and Penang state chief.
Her announcement came following PKR member Latheefa Koya claiming there were elements of cronyism and nepotism in the appointment of state chiefs.
Following this, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim turned down his appointment as the Johor PKR chief claiming that the selection process for state heads was not transparent.
Malaysiakini also reported that Azmin's faction is also planning to block Rafizi's appointment to a key position in the central leadership council (MPP). - Mkini
