PETALING JAYA: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (pic) has slammed an opposition lawmaker for sarcastically calling on the government not to sack two ministers.
Without mentioning the name of the person, Mohamed Hanipa said it was ironic that the individual’s own party wasn’t keen on picking him as its leader.
“Someone was reported in the media hoping that two ministers in the Pakatan Harapan government will not be sacked by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as both are ‘assets’ to the opposition.
“He does not want both to be sacked. How great is this man? His own party does not have the appetite to pick him as its top leader,” Mohamed Hanipa said.
Waytha has been under fire over the death of fireman Mohammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was a victim of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple riot. Many have called on him to step down from his ministerial post for allegedly creating tension.
Mohamed Hanipa also noted that when an Umno member, who was labelled as “carrot” or bongap (dumb in the Negri Sembilan dialect), carried out a poll on who could be better at leading the party, the same individual lost.
“I’m not sure if this person himself is an asset or a liability,” Mohamed Hanipa said.
Mohamed Hanipa was referring to a now-deleted Facebook poll carried out by Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.
It was conducted to let the people decide who they wanted as opposition leader when party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi goes on leave. The poll saw Khairy being pitted against former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The majority preferred Najib.
Mohamed Hanipa noted that the same individual “did not have an ounce of respect for any leaders'' – or they for him. “I’m sorry, respect must be earned,” he said.- Star
