KUALA KEDAH: The family of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim will receive over RM250,000 in insurance and ex gratia payouts from the Fire and Rescue Department and insurance schemes.
Housing and local government ministry secretary-general Mohammad Mentek said Adib’s pay grade had also been moved up from KB 19 to KB 22, which would mean a higher pension.
In a press conference outside Masjid As-Saadah in Kg Tebengau here today, Mentek said this was to lighten the family’s load.
“Adib lost his life on official duty after four years of service. He will be deeply missed.
“We salute him for his service to the Subang Jaya fire brigade.”
Later, Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general Amer Yusof told FMT Adib’s family would receive a total of RM255,756 in payouts from the department and insurance schemes.
He said the first entitlement was for firemen who died in the line of duty, that is, ex gratia under Kumpulan Wang Kebajikan Bomba of RM81,756. The quantum is 36 times the amount of Adib’s salary, which was RM2,271.
Another RM174,000 will be paid out as part of the firemen insurance scheme and an initiative by the Selangor government to help defray funeral expenses, among others.
Adib, who was badly injured in the Sri Maha Mariamman temple fracas in Subang Jaya last month, died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur last night. - FMT
