HADI CANNOT COUNT – UNTIL NOW, HE DOESN’T REALIZE MALAYS ARE THE MAJORITY: SAIFUDDIN TELLS MALAYS TO REBUT PAS CHIEF ON ‘DISINFORMATION’ OVER LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

ABDUL Hadi Awang is unwilling to acknowledge that Malays are the majority in local councils, said Saifuddin Abdullah.

The foreign minister said this in reply to a comment on Twitter today regarding Hadi’s remarks in London, where the latter said local council elections should be inclusive and not dominated by one race.

“The fact is Malays are the majority in most local councils. But he doesn’t want to believe it.

“We have to rebut him,” tweeted Saifuddin in response to a Twitter user who said what Hadi said was just “disinformation”.

Hadi created a stir on Christmas Eve at a dialogue in London with his remarks on the third vote and why he had reservations about it.

His remarks earned an abusive rebuke from a member of the audience who said the Islamist party leader was a racist.

On Christmas eve, Hadi was called a racistfor his criticism on local council elections at a London dialogue organised by PAS’ student outfit.

“When an election is contested only by residents (without including those who serve the residents), it is certain that big cities, such as Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang, Seremban and Johor Baru, would be dominated by DAP,” he said at the event yesterday.

“They will allow the consumption of alcohol and gambling. An election must involve all those who make a city alive.”

He cited racial riots on May 13, 1969 to make his point.

DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang refuted Hadi’s statement, saying it was a lie that DAP wanted to gain full control of the country through the local council elections.

Lim said he was also taken aback by Hadi’s remark as they had an exchange on the same matter three years ago, during which Hadi made the same argument, although it was countered by Lim then.
