I won’t quit my post, new Kelantan PKR chief tells Latheefa

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Supardi Md Noor today refused to resign his post as Kelantan PKR head, stating he was appointed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
“I am accepting this mandate and responsibility. I don’t want to respond to petty allegations against me. What’s important is the party’s future,” he told FMT.
Supardi, who is Tanah Merah PKR division chief, was responding to allegations by PKR member Latheefa Koya that he was, until recently, a member of Umno and had been suspended over allegations of money politics.
Supardi said he was Kelantan Umno information chief when the money politics allegation arose in 2013. However, nothing came out of those accusations and he was never implicated.
He said his membership of Umno automatically ceased when he joined PKR on April 18, before the 14th general election.
He said it was a normal practice for members of a political party to not write any official letter when leaving a party, adding that the party membership was considered void when the person joined another party.
Commenting on a complaint letter to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) from PKR Tanah Merah division claiming that two-thirds of the committee members had lost confidence in him, Supardi said it was just meant to embarrass him.
He said he had not appointed his committee members and questioned how two-thirds of them could have lost confidence in his leadership.
Latheefa, an outspoken lawyer, had sounded the alarm over the party’s recent appointments of state chiefs, accusing it of running its operations based on coteries or factions.
