PARLIAMENT | Ministers should learn about how to take the reins from Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, said a BN lawmaker.
Halimah Mohamad Sadique (BN-Kota Tinggi) said Zuraida has been quick to act on matters such as the drowning of six firefighters, the temple riots in Seafield, and transferring injured firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim from Subang Jaya Medical Centre to the National Heart Institute.
"(Zuraida) is a brave woman minister who is alert and acts fast.
"Sometimes ministers don't know they have to do these things (take action) and sometimes talk nonsense.
"I hope the other ministers can learn from Ampang (MP Zuraida) on how a minister can carry out their duties," Halimah told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Halimah was previously deputy housing and local government minister.
Her praise for Zuraida came during the policy stage debate on the ministry's portion of Budget 2019.
In her speech, Halimah also voiced support for Zuraida's push for 30 percent women representation in local governments.
"It is time for 30 percent women in government, and if we (BN) were not able to do it, then the minister can," she said.
Praise aside, Halimah asked Zuraida to clarify on the status of the RM200 special monthly allowance for firefighters introduced by the previous BN government.
She also asked if any new operating procedures have been drawn up for search and rescue missions, and what kind of compensations were given to firefighters who perished in the line of duty. - Mkini
