KUALA LUMPUR: Police had identified the mastermind of the second riot which took place at the Seri Maha Mariamman temple on Nov 27 which caused serious injuries to be sustained by a fireman.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said police had the necessary information on the mastermind and assured that action would be taken soon.
“Police have the information, and action has been taken against those who were suspected involved in the incident. Based on the latest report, the number of those arrested and remanded also saw an increase.
“Members of the public had also given police the assistance in the investigation of Muhammad Adib’s (injured fireman) case. We were informed that one of them had come forward, we will continue to investigate till find out who is guilty party for the incident,” he said.
Muhyiddin was speaking at a press conference after attending Home Ministry monthly meeting with Police at Bukit Aman, here, today.
Commenting on the list of 28 people who were being sought to assist in the investigations, Muhyiddin said as of this afternoon, none had turned themselves in.
On Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator P Waytha Moorthy being called in to have his statement recorded, he said Waytha was probably summoned in connection with a statement made regarding the incident at the temple.
“The investigation will be conducted under the Penal Code and Sedition Act,” he said.
The incident in the early morning of Nov 26 and Nov 27 at the temple had caused a policeman injured besides the destruction of 23 vehicles burned by the rioters as well as disruption of public order.
Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim from Subang Jaya Emergency, Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) unit was also injured in the incident, he is still being treated at the National Heart Institute.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun reportedly said that until 8am as of today, 83 people have been arrested in relation to the cases at the temple.
