MCA should just quit Barisan instead of asking for a dissolution, says Mohamad Hasan

SEREMBAN: Dissolving Barisan Nasional will not help in strengthening a two-party system in Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic).
The Umno deputy president said instead of MCA proposing such a move, the party should just quit the coalition.
"The proposal will not strengthen a two-party system in Malaysia.
"Instead of asking Barisan to be disbanded, the MCA should just leave," he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 3).
Mohamad said MCA members had formed a negative sentiment against Barisan post the May 9 general election.
He said it was unfair for the MCA to drag other component parties into its internal polemics.
"We in Umno, MIC, MyPPP and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah have agreed that Barisan shall continue to be our platform and we would always defend it.
"By asking that Barisan be disbanded, the MCA doesn't want to be seen as making a unilateral decision to quit," he said.
On Sunday (Dec 2), MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party wants Barisan to be dissolved.
He said the party’s central committee had been authorised to pave the way for the move and to form an effective alliance.
He said this after the party’s 65th annual general assembly.
Dr Wee said the consensus by the three founding parties – Umno, MCA and MIC – was needed for the coalition’s dissolution.- Star
