KUALA LUMPUR: Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman is seeking to move his corruption cases involving state timber concessionaires from the Sessions Court to the High Court.
His lawyer Francis Ng told the court today they wanted his 35 corruption charges tried at the higher court.
“However, we can only make the necessary application if we obtain all the trial documents from the prosecution,” he said to Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayub.
Musa’s other lawyer, Amer Hamzah, said they had only received documents related to  minutes of meetings and company searches.
Deputy public prosecutor Raja Rozela Raja Toran said they could not serve all the documents in such a short time as there were too many of them.
Rozina replied that the court would give the prosecution two months to furnish all trial documents and for Musa to decide if he wishes to transfer his case.
She set Feb 20, 2019 for case mention.
Musa, dressed in a grey suit and songkok, dodged questions from reporters on his status in Umno following the exodus of 36 Sabah Umno leaders who left the party yesterday to become independents.
He claimed trial last month to the 35 corruption charges related to timber concessionaires, brought under the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
The offences were said to have been committed 10 to 14 years ago, in Singapore and in Hong Kong, with transactions ranging from US$28,500 to US$16,148,547, amounting to a grand total of RM263 million.
If found guilty, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of RM10,000 or up to five times the bribes allegedly received, whichever amount is higher. - FMT
