Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has become a frequent visitor to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
This morning, he was summoned again for questioning. This time over the allegation that he ordered amendments to the 1MDB audit report.
Najib arrived at 10.30am and at the time of writing, he was still in the building. Najib is no stranger to marathon grilling sessions based on his previous encounters with MACC.
This is Najib's 11th visit to the commission headquarters since May 22. Two of these trips – on July 3 and Sept 19– ended with him being arrested. On Sept 19, he was held overnight.
On Nov 24, auditor-general Madinah Mohamad revealed that the amendments to the audit report included the removal of a paragraph stating the presence of fugitive financier Jho Low at a 1MDB board of directors meeting.
MACC has also questioned Madinah's predecessor Ambrin Buang over this matter.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Najib would be charged in relation to the tampering claim. Former 1MDB president Arul Kanda would also be hauled to court over the matter.
A senior MACC official said the pair is expected to be charged under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which stipulates offences of abusing power for gratification.
"Gratification is not only money but (in this case) it includes an order to remove the findings to save oneself from legal action," explained the official. -Mkini
