PAS lawmaker Che Abdullah Mat Nawi has claimed that Umno leaders are flocking to Pakatan Harapan to save themselves from prosecution.
However, he also slipped in a sarcastic swipe at DAP leader Lim Guan Eng.
“Joining Harapan is an easy way to cleanse oneself and become as pure as Lim Guan Eng,” he said.
The Tumpat MP noted how the corruption charges against Lim, who is now finance minister, was dropped after Pakatan Harapan formed the federal government.
In September, the Attorney-General's Chambers head of the Appellate and Trial Division Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria explained that he had made the decision to enter nolle prosequi (where the public prosecutor does not propose to further prosecute an accused) in light of new evidence and knowing that the case would not succeed.
Meanwhile, Che Abdullah said he understood the pressure which Umno leaders were facing.
“But when you enter Harapan you become 'bersih' (clean). This means there is no difference between 'Malaysia Baru' (new Malaysia) and 'lama' (old)
“They may have made minor mistakes or major wrongdoings or have scandals when they were ministers. (Now), they are being 'threatened and hunted' (over this).
“So to save themselves, they have to jump,” he added in a Harakah Online article.
However, Che Abdullah is confident that PAS lawmakers would not switch parties like their Umno counterparts.
“Alhamduillah (Thank God), our MPs are clean, there is no pressure to save themselves. Our struggle is not to be ministers or for positions but principles.
“Whoever champions principles will remain with PAS,” he said, adding that Harapan is now inheriting the traits of BN and Umno. -Mkini
