An internal source within PAS confirmed social media claims that Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali was appointed as the chairperson of four government-linked companies (GLC) under the PAS-led Terengganu government.
Khairuddin, who is also PAS Ulama information chief, is the chairperson of the Terengganu Strategic Integrity Institute (TSIS), Darul Iman Training Centre (Ditc), Duyong Marina & Resort Terengganu and Paya Bunga Hotel Terengganu.
The source said TSIS was a non-profit GLC that serves as a think-tank for the Terengganu government.
"The appointment was done in May, as soon as PAS won Terengganu. The position suits him due to his positions as an MP and the strategies director for PAS, as well as his background as a former lecturer who holds a doctorate," said the source on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the source added that DITC was a training centre for the Terengganu government.
As for the commercial entities Duyong Marina & Resort Terengganu and Paya Bunga Hotel Terengganu, the source said they were troubled and Khairuddin had been tasked to revive them.
"The hotel (Paya Bunga Hotel Terengganu) was still not operational after two years despite having hired staff and was facing millions in operational losses.
"Khairuddin was tasked to take over and restructure the company since October. In just two months, he was able to solve the hotel's problems and it began operation this December," said the source.
Following the success, the source said Khairuddin was also appointed into the board of the Duyong Marina & Resort Terengganu, which was facing millions in losses.
"He was tasked with solving the problems left behind by the previous Umno government based on his experience and capability," said the source, who pointed out that Khairuddin was a businessperson.
Yesterday, Terengganu Amanah questioned the many posts held by Khairuddin in Terengganu GLCs and the remunerations.
As such, Terengganu Amanah Youth communications director Muammar Qaddafi Mohd Nasir had urged those in the PAS-led Terengganu government to declare their assets.
He said this was to allow the people to monitor their leaders and ensure that they do not amass wealth through the state government.
He also pointed out that leaders in the Pakatan Harapan-led federal government have also declared their assets. -Mkini
