Rare earth plant Lynas wants to continue operations

Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd will continue with efforts to ensure its rare earth plant in Gebeng, Pahang, is allowed to continue its operation, said its deputy president (Human Capital and Community) Mimi Afzan Afza Abdullah.

She said the company was prepared to discuss with the relevant parties on suggestions for the plant to continue operations as it would be a big loss to close down the plant since it had trained many locals in rare earth processing.
"Lynas has produced 645 skilled workforce who are capable of conducting research and development (R&D) in the field.
"Products produced by the Lynas factory are used to make high-quality gadgets,” she told reporters in Kuantan today.
Mimi said she hoped the government would take into account the positive contributions by Lynas.
“The industry has given a lot of benefits for the people and the country. We hope the expertise that we have at Lynas will not be wasted … we are prepared to work together to build a progressive and successful Malaysia,” she added.
Last Tuesday, some 130 workers from Lynas Corporation (Lynas) gathered in front of Parliament to urge the government to save their jobs and handed over a memorandum against the government’s threats to revoke the company’s licence.
