SHAH ALAM (Bernama): The public is welcome to submit proposals to resolve the issue surrounding the relocation of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya near here, however, they must respect the 'the rule of law'.
Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said that as the "intermediary", the state government would find the best solution to the issue by next week, ensuring all parties involved were satisfied with the outcome.
"I hope the parties involved can remain patient because I see it (the solution) is getting clearer after holding several discussions (with the parties involved) today and yesterday.
"As I mentioned, it (the settlement) must uphold the rule of law and if all parties agree, they must go through certain legal processes. The interest of the state government (as the mediator) is to ensure the peace and stability of the people," he told reporters at the lobby of the state assembly here on Tuesday (Dec 4).
.The riots which took place on Nov 26 and 27 following disagreements over the relocation of the temple to a new site had resulted in several people being injured as well as vehicle and property damage.
On Sunday (Dec 2), businessman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun was reported to have raised RM2mil through a fundraising campaign he initiated to purchase the land that houses the temple.
One City Development Sdn Bhd (One City) is the current owner of the land.
The police have detained 83 individuals to assist with investigations into the rioting incidents.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun was quoted as saying that all those detained so far were locals and there were more arrests to come. - Bernama
