KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman attached to the Motorcycle Patrol Unit was killed while his colleague was seriously injured after a car skidded and crashed into their motorcycles at Jalan Semantan here early this morning.
In the 3.50am incident, Constable Mohd Zamri Sinsian, 26, died at the scene while Constable Osman Ibrahim, 23, suffered head injuries.
Another personnel, Corporal Mohd Samsul, escaped unhurt. Three of them are with the Travers Police Station.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head ACP Zulkefly Yahya said during the incident, the three policemen were conducting checks on a car that had stopped on Jalan Semantan.
“Another vehicle came from behind and rammed into them,“ he said today.
“We believe the driver of the second vehicle lost control and the car swerved into the police personnel. One of the personnel died at the scene while another was injured.” he said today.
The 44-year-old male driver of the car had been detained and brought to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department for an alcohol test.
The victim’s body was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.
Constable Osman, who is suffering from internal bleeding, is being treated at University Malaya Medical Centre.
