SONGKHLA (Bernama): Two bombs rocked the popular Samila Beach here Wednesday night, causing damage to the famous Golden Mermaid Statue and the Cat and Mouse Sculpture.
Songkhla provincial governor Wiranan Penjang said no one was injured in the incident which happened at 10pm (11pm Malaysian time) at the beach which is popular among local and foreign tourists including Malaysians.
The second bomb split the base of the mermaid statue, he said.
The first bomb exploded about 10 minutes earlier at the cat and mouse sculpture about 200m away from the mermaid statue, he added.
Wiranan said a forensics team will conduct a thorough inspection at the two locations which have since been closed to visitors.
The Malaysian consul-general in Songkhla, Mohd Afandi Abu Bakar, when contacted, said no Malaysians were injured in the incident. - Bernama
