Two employers sentenced with whipping for keeping illegal immigrants

KUALA LUMPUR: Two employers found guilty of harbouring illegal immigrants in the past two years have been given whipping sentences, says the Home Ministry.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman (pic) told the Dewan Negara on Wednesday (Dec 12) that from 2016 until October this year, more than 40,000 operations had been carried out, with 3973 employers being arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act.
He said that from January until October this year, 72 employers had been charged under Section 55(b) of the Act.
Senator Datuk Chai Kim Sen had asked if the Ministry strictly executed corporal punishment on employers who employed illegal immigrants under Section 55B(3) of the Immigration Act.
Under the Act, anyone found guilty of having employed more than five such employees at the same time are liable to imprisonment for a term of six months to five years and whipping of not more than six strokes. - Star
