Two men sentenced to jail, caning for raping daughters

ALOR GAJAH: Two men who admitted to raping their daughters face lengthy jail terms and caning in two separate cases at the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Dec 27).

In the first case, a 35-year-old man pleaded guilty to raping his 12-year-old daughter on two occasions on Nov 4 at his home in Pulau Sebang, near here.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of eight to 30 years and at least 10 strokes of the rotan.

Justice Ahmad Sazali Omar sentenced the accused to 20 years' jail and 10 strokes of the rotan.

.In another case at the same courthouse, a 39-year-old unemployed man, also from Pulau Sebang, was sentenced to 15 years' jail and 10 strokes of the rotan.

The accused was also charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.

The father of seven pleaded guilty to raping his 18-year-old daughter at his home at 10.30am last July.

The accused, represented by counsel Muhammad Azizi Mahat, appealed for a lighter sentence, saying he was remorseful of his act, which happened under the influence of alcohol. His appeal was rejected.

The court ordered the sentence to be enforced from the date the accused was arrested on Dec 21.- Star
