Vincent Tan donates RM50k to injured firefighter

Tycoon Vincent Tan today announced that he will be donating RM50,000 to Fire and Rescue Department personnel Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was injured by rioters near the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Seafield, Subang Jaya earlier this week.
"We are making the contribution to Muhammad Adib on humanitarian grounds to help with his treatment and wedding this month," he told journalists.
Earlier, Tan had visited the temple with Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar.
The temple was the scene of rioting on Monday and Tuesday. Police have, as of yesterday, arrested 48 people in relation to the unrest.
Muhammad Adib, 24, was attacked by rioters in the early hours of Tuesday.
The previous day, the developer that owns the land on which the temple sits allegedly hired a group of men to secure the site.
This led to clashes between the hired hands and temple devotees, which then escalated into riots.
The developer, One City Development Sdn Bhd, had denied hiring or sanctioning the use of thugs.
Supporters of the temple gathered early on Tuesday morning, which led to a second round of rioting.
Muhammad Adib was part of the Fire and Rescue Department team that arrived on the scene after rioters torched several vehicles.
He was reportedly dragged out of his vehicle and beaten up, suffering several broken ribs and injured organs, landing him in the intensive care unit.
Doctors say that his condition is improving after being treated with specialised equipment at the National Heart Institute. - Mkini
