PETALING JAYA: Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low has to have faith in the capabilities of Malaysian judges and need not fear having an unfair trial here, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Malaysian judges, he said, were fair and Low’s lack of confidence in the Malaysian judiciary system could stem from his own guilt.
“He must know he is guilty. So when he is guilty, he will feel that the judgment is not fair,” said the Prime Minister.
One could not keep brushing aside the charges or getting judges that might serve one’s personal interest, Dr Mahathir added.
It was reported that Low claimed he would not get a fair trial in Malaysia as the government had no interest in the rule of law.
In a statement issued by his lawyers, Low maintained his innocence and would not submit to any jurisdiction where guilt had been predetermined by politics and there was no independent legal process.
Low has been charged in absentia for offences linked to 1MDB.
