You were spoiling telco signal, MCMC tells ex-MP who cried political persecution

Former MP Tan Tee Beng, crying political prosecution on Facebook after the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) visited his home while he was away, had fuelled speculations of what action would be taken against him.
Tan, who posted his Facebook message in Chinese, had said: "My family informed me that the MCMC came to my house looking for me but I was not home."
"If there is no news from me soon, you know what had happened. Political persecution!" he added.
However, it turned out that the MCMC had only visited his house due to a cordless phone he owned which had caused signal interference in the area.
"The MCMC would like to clarify that the presence of officers at Tan's home yesterday was to investigate an incident of frequency interference and not due to the reasons he had previously claimed," the MCMC said in a statement today.
The MCMC said it established that the interference originated from his (Tan's) Panasonic cordless phone model KX-TGA401 which he owned.
"Tan was informed of this. The MCMC would like to advise the public who owns or intend to own similar phone model to first contact the MCMC headquarters so as to avoid a repeat of such incidences of interference which can affect the quality of telecommunication services in the area," said MCMC.
Tan was the Nibong Tebal MP from 2008 until 2013 under the PKR ticket. He quit PKR in 2010 to become an independent MP. -Mkini
