Zahid: MCA has no right to demand BN dissolution, should know its position

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he respected MCA's call for the coalition's dissolution but said MCA should also know its place.
This was after MCA, at its annual general assembly, approved a resolution empowering the party's leadership to seek for BN's dissolution.
"We respect their decision, for they surely know what needs to be done to strengthen MCA because in Parliament, they only have one seat left and even then, it is a Malay-majority seat.
"So they should know their real position if they want to remain relevant in our political landscape," Zahid told journalists at the Dewan Rakyat lobby this morning.
He said the MCA had no right to unilaterally decide on BN's dissolution as it must be done through consensus.
"As there are five parties within BN, I will hold negotiations and discussions with the other four parties.
"Surely, MCA does not have the right to call for BN's dissolution. Even though it is a proposal, they should know that any decision by BN must be made on consensus and unanimously," he said.
At present, BN comprises Umno, MCA, MIC, MyPPP and PBRS (Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah).
The status of MyPPP's membership in BN is unclear due to a power struggle within the party, with one faction wanting to quit BN while another wanting to stay.
PBRS had previously announced its departure from BN and applied to join Pakatan Harapan. However, it returned to BN's fold after Harapan ignored its application. - Mkini
