Zahid warns of plot to topple BN govt in Pahang

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today claimed of efforts to “buy” Barisan Nasional’s MPs and assemblymen in Pahang, one of two states where the former ruling coalition was returned to power.

Umno Online quoted Zahid as saying that “enemies” from within the party were persuading BN elected representatives to switch sides.

“We have to prevent the MPs and assemblymen in Pahang from going across because some have already met that person,” Zahid, the former home minister, said at a Temerloh Umno retreat in Fraser’s Hill.

“I used to be the minister looking after the police and soldiers, so I say this, I want to remind us on the need to be careful. Efforts have been made, meetings have been held.”

Zahid, who is facing calls to resign in the wake of the flight of Umno MPs and assemblymen, said those on “the other side” were sly and that Pahang Umno must act.

“Don’t worry about me, whatever my decision, I will remain with Umno because I want to see Umno remain relevant.

“Whoever becomes president after this, in the coming election, I want to see Umno come back to power in Putrajaya.” -FMT
