Adib inquest summons mechanical engineer to resolve dispute

Almost two months after it was first mooted, a mechanical engineer will finally be called to testify in the inquest to determine the cause of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death.
This is to resolve a dispute between two experts, on what could have caused Adib's injuries on the night of the Seafield Seri Mahamariamman Temple riot last Nov 27.
Coroner Rofiah Mohamad today resolved to summon Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) mechanical engineer Amir Radzi Ab Ghani as a neutral physics expert.
She had picked Amir based on two names proposed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
Amir will testify on July 16 and 17, after which Rofiah will decide whether a pathologist needs to be summoned.
The disputed matter involves an argument between Kuala Lumpur Hospital medical forensic expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi and retired forensic pathologist Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid on what caused the injuries that led to Adib's death.
Ahmad Hafizam believes that Adib's chest injuries were caused by landing on a roadside kerb after being hit by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van he was in.
However, Shahrom rubbished this assertion, saying the van did not have enough force to send Adib hurtling onto the kerb and he also rubbished an experiment by Hafizam as substandard.
Adib died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018, after succumbing to injuries sustained on the night of a riot in front of the temple in USJ Subang Jaya.
The inquest was ordered after two conflicting versions of the cause of his death emerged.
One version claimed he was hit by a vehicle while the other said he was beaten by a mob.
Adib's family is represented by lawyers Syazlin Mansor, Suzana Atan, Mazlifah Ayib, Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Rafngah and Afiq Zainal Abidin. - Mkini
