After 'robber' ban, Dewan Rakyat descends into profanity again

PARLIAMENT | Just a day after the Dewan Rakyat speaker banned words deemed indecorous, proceedings in the House descended into profanity again today, with two lawmakers exchanging insults.
The verbal spat began after Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) asked for a withdrawal of Pang Hok Liong's (Harapan-Labis) July 10 remark on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s allowances.
“We are touching on the nature of the king. Parliament should withdraw this question. It is as if Parliament is insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“How can we allow such a question?” Shahidan (above) asked, citing Standing Order 36(7).
Pang (below) immediately stood up in objection and said: “At least I didn’t molest an underage girl.”
This stunned Shahidan into silence for a moment, before he shouted out “Oi, bangsat Labis (Oi, Labis bastard)."
With lawmakers on both aisles then causing a ruckus, speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof demanded that both Shahidan and Pang retract their remarks.
“The people are watching us in the Dewan, and before us we have schoolchildren.
“Labis, retract your remark. Arau, retract your remark. If not, I will eject the both of you,” he said.
Although protesting that his remark was not directed at Shahidan, Pang eventually agreed on the retraction.
Shahidan followed suit, saying he had no problem retracting his insult. - Mkini
