Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa (photo, above) claimed the money in the party’s current frozen accounts has nothing to do with 1MDB as the funds from former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak were used up by 2014.
“I can swear on behalf of Umno - not a single sen of the money that has been frozen in Umno’s accounts has anything to do with 1MDB.
“I dare to make this statement because I have already seen the documents in detail.
“The accusation is that (Umno) received (funds) from Najib’s accounts in 2011, 2012 and 2013. By 2014, the money received from Najib’s accounts had been completely cleaned out.
“The money in 2018 is the earnings from 2016 and 2017, (it has) nothing to do with 1MDB,” Annuar said during his speech at the Kuala Terengganu Umno delegates’ meeting in Kuala Terengganu today.
Terengganu Umno state chief Ahmad Said was also present.
On June 29 last year, the 1MDB task force confirmed it has frozen a number of accounts belonging to individuals and organisations including Umno.
“The 1MDB task force gives its guarantee that the investigation will be done fairly and professionally, according to the rule of law,” they had said at that time.
The task force comprises former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, former MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed, MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull and former Bukit Aman Special Branch deputy director Abul Hamid Bador.
Umno has appointed a team of lawyers to seek the return of the funds, though the accounts are still frozen after one year.
Annuar, who is the Ketereh MP, said 1MDB needs to provide all valid documents to prove the party had accepted money from the state fund which was set up by BN.
Meanwhile, Annuar also said that there will be another meeting between BN and PAS in four days to finalise their cooperation charter before handing it to the party presidents.
Once both sides agree to it, the main agenda in the charter will be presented to the rakyat, he said. - Mkini
