KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has denied that he was jeered when he attended a Felda event in Rompin, Pahang on Sunday (July 7).
Azmin said that there was some disturbance during a speech he gave at the event, but stressed that the jeers were not aimed at him.
"I spoke and made quite a lengthy speech. There was something happening at the back, but it was not levelled against me," he said, adding that he did not know what the commotion was about.
Azmin was speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Monday (July 8).
Videos of Azmin giving his speech at the event have gone viral, with some claiming that he was being booed by the crowd attending the Felda Settlers' Day 2019 celebration in Rompin.
Azmin said that his presence at the event was well received by those in attendance.

"The fact that Felda settlers travelled from all over the country to welcome the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and the new initiatives presented in the white paper reflects their support.
Azmin also dismissed claims he was jeered because the event was held in Pahang, where Barisan Nasional holds the state.
"We have a good working relationship. In fact, before the Prime Minister went to Pahang, I received a letter from the state Mentri Besar to discuss some infrastructure projects.
"We agreed to consider three mega-projects in Pahang, which was approved by Dr Mahathir on Sunday (July 7).
"This proves that we have not neglected Pahang for development," he said.
Meanwhile, Azmin said it was crucial for the Government to step up its efforts to convince Felda settlers to have their lands merged, to become larger, combined estates.
"We want to convince them that this is the way forward," he said.
On Sunday, Dr Mahathir said the Government had plans to amalgamate Felda settlers' land to become big estates that can generate lucrative income through more efficient and professional management.
He said this had been practised by big foreign-owned estates since the British colonial administration.- Star
