Body of man who fell off Penang ferry found

BUTTERWORTH: Rescuers have recovered the body of 47-year-old logistics company manager Tham Kok Keong who fell off a ferry that was departing from Butterworth to Penang island on Monday (July 1).
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said fishermen spotted a body floating in the sea near Gurney Drive at 10.40am on Tuesday (July 2), about 4.8km from where Tham fell.
Rescuers then retrieved the body and brought it back to the fishermen's jetty near the Floating Cannon shrine here.
Police said they managed to match Tham's body based on his identification card found inside the car that he had abandoned on the Pulau Kapas ferry.
“So far police have found no foul play, and the car that Tham drove belonged to a relative,” ACP Noorzainy told a press conference Tuesday.
The case is being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide and Tham's body has been sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem.- Star
