Cargo train derails, ETS and Komuter services affected

KUALA LUMPUR: A cargo train carrying cement derailed near the Rawang Station today, affecting the Electric Trains Service, KTM Komuter and cargo services.
KTMB chief executive Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said the cargo train from Tasek, Perak, to Sungai Buloh, Selangor, overturned at 5.38 pm.
“The single track between Rawang and Kuang was completely disrupted. However, the driver and assistants (of the cargo train) did not suffer any injuries. Eight of the 30 cement wagons were derailed, while the remaining 22 and the locomotive remained on the track,” he said in a statement today.
“KTMB is actively carrying out the work of moving the cars off the track to ensure that the single track can be used by other trains as soon as possible,” he said.
Mohd Rani said KTM Komuter trains would stop at the Sungai Buloh and Serendah stations for the Port Klang and Tanjung Malim routes.
“There will be no train service between Sungai Buloh station and Serendah station,” he said. KTMB would provide buses for all passengers to continue their journey to Sungai Buloh, Rawang and Serendah.
“ETS passengers bound for destinations between KL Sentral and Tanjung Malim will also be provided with the bus service to continue their journey,” he added.
