Cops banned from patronising entertainment outlets

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador says all entertainment and gaming outlets will be off-limits for policemen, as part of efforts to prevent corruption in the force.
Speaking to Sinar Harian, Hamid said the move was because some officers were offered bribes in the form of freebies from outlet owners.
“There are police officers who celebrate birthday parties in these premises for free. That is corruption,” said Hamid.
He said the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department would be monitoring officers with disciplinary action taken against offenders.
“If we receive information of their presence at entertainment outlets, they will be subject to the same process as civilians and undergo urine and blood tests,” he said.
Hamid also urged officers to cut ties with individuals involved in drugs, gambling and entertainment outlets.
He said the call was nothing new, adding that a directive had been in place for nearly 20 years.
Last month, Hamid warned his officers against seeking funds from companies and individuals to organise Hari Raya events, and advised policemen not to hold lavish gatherings at police stations. - FMT
