Ex-minister Tengku Adnan faces trial on RM2 mil bribery charge

Former FT minister Tengku Adnan faces another trial in September.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor goes on trial tomorrow on a charge of receiving a RM2 million bribe from businessman Chai Kin Kong, with four witnesses expected to testify on the first day’s hearing in the High Court.
According to the prosecution, the four witnesses include those from the Companies Commission of Malaysia, Cabinet division and a bank.
Tengku Adnan, 68, who is MP for Putrajaya, was charged in January. He has pleaded not guilty. The trial will be held over six days between July 2 and July 11.
According to the charge, Tengku Adnan, accepted RM2 million from Chai Kin Kong via a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque belonging to Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd which had been deposited into the CIMB Bank account of Tadmansori Holding Sdn Bhd in which he had an interest, when it was known that Aset Kayamas had connection with his official duties.
Tengku Adnan is alleged to have committed the offence at CIMB Bank Berhad, Pusat Bandar Damansara Branch here on June 14, 2016. He is charged under the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.
Tengku Adnan also faces a separate trial on a charge of accepting a bribe and an alternative charge of accepting a bribe of RM1 million from businessman Tan Eng Boon over the approval of an application by a company to raise the plot ratio related to development in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur in 2013.
This hearing of this case will begin on Sept 3 this year. - FMT
