Former SRC director tells court he did not know why he was told to leave Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Former SRC International Sdn Bhd director Datuk Suboh Md Yassin did not ask the reason he was asked to leave the country, the High Court heard Monday (July 8).
Under cross-examination from Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, counsel to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Suboh said he left the country after being asked to do so by former SRC International chief executive officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, but did not ask the reason he was asked to go.
Shafee: If somebody tells you to go away, wouldn't you want to know? So did you find out from Nik Faisal?
Suboh: I didn't find out.
Shafee later asked Suboh whether he left the country because he committed an offence, but Suboh said no.
Suboh: No, I don't think I did anything wrong.
Shafee: But why did you then went (sic) away?
Suboh: Because Nik Faisal asked me to go away.
Suboh however agreed with Shafee's suggestion that he was asked to leave the country as he was holding vital information to several documents related to SRC International.
Shafee: I am putting it to you that Nik Faisal told you to go away because you are capable of telling the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) that these were not your signatures (signatures on documents related to SRC International). Isn't that a serious possibility?
Suboh: That is possible.
Shafee: But you went without confirming with Nik Faisal why you needed to go?
Prior to the trial, it was reported earlier this year that Suboh was placed under a witness protection programme after being on the run in Bangkok and Abu Dhabi for three years.
Earlier, there was a commotion in court as ad hoc Prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram  said that several exhibits have been taken out of court.
Shafee, however, explained that the exhibits - which were slides of documents - were taken by the defence to make copies.- Star
