GIACC opens counter at Parliament to help MPs declare assets

The Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre has set up a counter at Parliament to help MPs declare their assets, a day after the Dewan Rakyat approved a motion compelling its members to do so.
GIACC legal adviser Kalai Vani said the counter's purpose is to provide information to MPs on the procedure to declare their assets.
She noted that many opposition MPs have visited the counter to seek for more information on the asset declaration.
"We are doing an explanatory session but they can choose to declare (their assets) immediately.
"The MPs will need to fill a form and hand in a statutory declaration, with one copy to the Dewan Rakyat speaker and another to the MACC," she said.
The counter, at the entrance of the Parliament's canteen, will be opened for until tomorrow.
"We will come also come back on the last day of Parliament which is on July 18," she added.
The majority of government MPs declared their assets last year as part of Putrajaya's anti-corruption policy, although a handful has yet to do so.
While that declaration did not involve opposition MPs, the motion approved by the Dewan Rakyat yesterday now compels all of its members, including the opposition, to also declare their assets. -Mkini
