KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof says Lim Guan Eng will not be referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee, despite the opposition’s push on claims that the finance minister had misled the house over the goods and services tax (GST) refunds issue.
“There is no prima facie case against Bagan, who is also the finance minister, that he misled the Dewan,” he said, referring to Lim’s constituency.
Ariff said he had made his decision after reviewing the report by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Lim’s speech made in August last year.
On Monday, opposition leader Ismail Sabri Yaakob called for Lim to be referred to the committee, claiming he had misled the house over the issue of the GST refunds.
This was after PAC confirmed that no GST refund money had gone missing although there had been a violation of the Goods and Services Tax Act 2014 when the funds were transferred into a Consolidated Revenue Account instead of the GST Refund Account.
Lim, in August, alleged that RM19.4 billion was stolen by the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.
Today, Ismail argued that the issue revolved around Lim’s claim that the BN government had misappropriated the funds.
“PAC has already confirmed that did not occur. Therefore the accusation (that BN robbed the funds) is false.” - FMT
BN robbed everything. Period.
