PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (photo, above) came up with a short two-word sentence to describe the party's sentiment towards the offer to join Pakatan Harapan: "Tiada Selera" (no appetite).
These were the Marang MP’s exact words when asked by reporters at the Parliament building today on Harapan’s offer for PAS to join the government coalition.
"No appetite, that's all," he said.
Earlier today, former PAS vice-president Husam Musa made an offer for the party to join Harapan after failing to form a government on its own.
Husam, who joined Parti Amanah Negara after leaving PAS and is now a senator, added that PAS would automatically become a part of the government if it joins Harapan.
He also cited the number of PAS parliamentary seats as a reason for the party to join Harapan, saying it would strengthen the government and the voice of Malay voters.
Besides Husam, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, had also spoken about the coalition's offer to the Islamist party.
He had reportedly said Harapan was willing to open their doors to PAS to become one of its component parties for the sake of Muslim unity in the country.
Meanwhile, BN advisory board chairperson Najib Abdul Razak was also asked to comment on the issue.
Najib said he believed that PAS had already made its choice.
"I believe PAS had made its choice. The party (PAS) chooses Umno," he said.
Najib, who in April admitted he and Abdul Hadi were the ones responsible in bringing the parties together, added that Umno also made its choice on whom to be their partner.
"From the Umno side, we have made our choice. Our choice is PAS," he said.
The former prime minister said the parties had even formed a strong coalition and will seal an agreement between them.
"I see now that even the divisional and branch levels have activities together(PAS and Umno).
"Thus PAS and Umno will be the main platform for the Malays and Muslims," he added. - mkini
