Hassan adamant on quitting as Johor PKR chief, admits to differences with palace

Hassan Karim is adamant on resigning as Johor PKR chairperson, vowing not to backpedal on his decision like before.
The Pasir Gudang MP also admitted that one of the reasons behind his decision to step down differences with the state palace.
“It is correct. There are some differences,” he told Malaysiakini when quizzed on this.
Hassan said he also mentioned this in his letter to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who has refused to accept his resignation.
“I do not wish to be a burden to Anwar and the party,” he added, without elaborating.
On Anwar wanting him to continue as the state PKR chairperson, Hassan pointed out that this is the second time he has relinquished the post.
“I accepted (the appointment) because Anwar had just been elected president at the time.
“But I will not reverse this time, or it will bring my integrity into question. Others will say I am merely 'crying wolf'. This is not a sandiwara (charade).
“I respect the president and I wish to apologise to him. My decision is final,” he added.
On the same note, Hassan said he supported Anwar as the next prime minister and is willing to accept anyone as the next Johor PKR chief.
Asked who he felt is best suited for the post, the lawmaker named Johor PKR deputy chief Jimmy Puah (below).
“The prerogative is in the president's hands. But if you were to ask my personal opinion, I think Puah (is the best candidate).
“Puah is a Johor state exco and deputy state chief for two terms. He understands the state,” he added.
Previously, Malaysiakini reported that Hassan's resignation was not related to the rift between Anwar and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali with regard to a sex video scandal.
Last December, Hassan turned down his appointment as Johor PKR chief in the wake of Anwar's daughter Nurul Izzah resigning as party vice-president and chairperson of the Penang chapter.
Hassan added that PKR must amend its constitution in relation to the election of state chairpersons.
He said his appointment to head the Johor chapter had been disputed and it is only appropriate that he steps down.
At the time, Latheefa Koya – who was then a PKR member – criticised the appointments of state chiefs, including Hassan's, as reeking of “cronyism” and failing to reflect the views of the majority of division chiefs.
Latheefa, who has always been regarded as aligned to Azmin, was later named as the MACC chief commissioner. - Mkini
