Honeymoon is over for PKR, say frustrated state chiefs

Six state PKR chiefs say they formed a new internal council as they are frustrated with top leaders for their lack of focus on state-level party affairs.
Led by Kedah PKR chief Johari Abdul, members of the new State PKR Chairpersons Council claimed they now want to become a force to be reckoned with.
"All of you only focus your power at the central level, but we in states like Kedah and Kelantan, we are facing problems," he said at a press conference held at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya this morning.
"Who is going to take care of us and our problems?
"That is why we are forming this council to become a force, and urge the party president to also focus on us and to be fair to us too.
The press conference was held after the council's first meeting, during which all six signed a resolution to back party president Anwar Ibrahim.
They claimed that more state PKR chiefs have stated their intention to join the council, and that they would be met later today during a party's retreat in Port Dickson to have them sign the resolution.
On their "undivided support" for Anwar, the group said the president must in turn help state party leaders as they are the ones facing the rakyat every day.
Johari said that PKR, as a component of Pakatan Harapan, has been ruling the country for over a year, but there are many things in the election manifesto that had yet to be fulfilled.
"We were in the opposition for a long time before getting to be the government. But after about a year and a half, the honeymoon period is over.
"Please listen to us because we are the ones who have to face the people, and they need your help.
"As the state chiefs, we want to say that we understand that you are busy with your work, but we are the ones facing the rakyat," he said. - Mkini
