PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohamad is standing by his earlier view that the gay sex videos targeting Mohamed Azmin Ali are politically motivated, saying they were intended to pressure him into sacking the economic affairs minister.
“I could do this (sacking Azmin) because I have the power. If I took such action, the victors would be those behind this evil deed,” the prime minister wrote on his personal blog today.
He also said he would not allow himself to be made into a pawn in what he described as political plot to remove Azmin.
“I will not be used, let alone by evil schemers and through gutter politics,” he wrote.
Last week, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said that a leader of a political party is behind the gay sex clips implicating Azmin.
He also said forensic analysis had failed to positively identify Azmin in the video.
Former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Aziz had said that the videos showed him and Azmin, a claim rejected by the PKR deputy president who spoke of a conspiracy to end his political career.
Police have so far arrested 11 people for distributing the clips, including Haziq and Perak PKR leader Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is also PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary.
Mahathir said the video was distributed solely with political motivations.
“My religion prohibits me from snooping to expose the faults of others. What was done is worse than snooping,” he wrote. - FMT
