IGP: Sg Selangor contamination culprits could be arrested under Sosma

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will not hesitate to arrest the perpetrators behind the Sungai Selangor contamination under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, says Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.
The Inspector-General of Police said those arrested could also be slapped with the most serious charges permitted under the law.
"We take this sabotage seriously.
"Back in the days of the Internal Security Act (ISA), those who sabotaged essential services and utilities could be arrested under that Act. That's how important it is.

"I've instructed the Selangor police chief to go down there himself and lead the investigation.

"This has affected around 5 million people and we will not hesitate to take serious action against the wrongdoers," he told reporters after attending the launch of the Malaysia National Strategy for Financial Literacy 2019-2023 at Bank Negara here.
The Sungai Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang water treatment plants were shut down on Sunday (July 21) night following the detection of diesel pollutant in Sungai Selangor.
This came two days after odour pollution forced more than a million consumers to experience abrupt water cut.
Selangor's sand mining concessionaire Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) had said in a statement that it had detected diesel spillage in the river close to the Hang Tuah pond at about 6.15pm on Sunday.- Star
