PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan palace today said designations for members of the royal household can only be bestowed through official announcements, in what appears to be a response to an Instagram posting by Rihana Oksana Gorbaten, the Russian model who married Sultan Muhammad V last year.
“Nobody can be called Permaisuri Kelantan, Raja Perempuan Kelantan, Sultanah Kelantan or the ‘Queen of Kelantan’ without an official announcement from the Kelantan palace,” said palace spokesman Nik Mohd Shafriman Nik Hassan.
The statement comes just days after a copy of a divorce certificate purportedly issued by the Kelantan shariah court made the rounds on social media.
The document states that the Kelantan ruler had divorced Oksana through “triple talaq” method, which irrevocably terminates a Muslim marriage.
The palace has yet to deny or confirm the authenticity of the certificate.
Oksana, meanwhile, has taken to Instagram, sharing pictures of her moments with Sultan Muhammad V.
In one posting last week, the former Miss Moscow spoke about the couple’s son, Ismail Leon, calling him “Tengku Mahkota Kelantan” or crown prince.
“And insha Allah, the ruler of Kelantan,” she added in the post.
But without making references to her post, the Kelantan palace said the rightful crown prince is Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra, the brother of the current sultan.
“Only official announcements from the Kelantan palace can be accepted as accurate information for the public and media practitioners,” it said. - FMT
