ISLAM NOT ENOUGH – HADI NOW BLAMES ‘SOCIALIST’ DAP FOR MANDATORY ASSET DECLARATION BILL: BUT WHY SO FRIGHTENED, DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE – ANWAR MOCKS PAS LEADERS

IPOH – The government’s Bill compelling all federal lawmakers at both the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to declare their assets is due to the DAP’s influence, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed today.
The PAS president asserted that the asset declaration initiative was derived from communist and socialist philosophies — a system he claimed is practised by the DAP.
“The socialists supposedly want to limit the wealth, but the fact is that the leaders who are in the socialist country are the riches,” he told the Terengganukita news portal in a video interview aired on his Facebook page.
Hadi then said that while Islam does permit asset declaration, the practice depends on the situation.
“It depends on the situation. If a person has cases or accusations of corruption, money laundering and tax issue, then it is compulsory for the person to declare the assets.
“But if we know that the person doesn’t have any case, then it should not be made compulsory for them,” he said.
The Marang MP insisted that there is currently no law that empowers the Pakatan Harapan government to force the move on lawmakers.
As such, he demanded the government explain in detail their basis for their initiative.
He added that there were many other issues that should be given precedence compared to asset declarations.
“Actually, there are many other issues than the asset declaration, but since Pakatan Harapan failed to fulfil their promised manifesto so they are doing this to cover it,” he said.
Earlier this week, the government tabled a Bill that make it mandatory for MPs on both sides of the political divide, senators, their spouses and children below age 21 to declare their assets, failing which the errant lawmaker will be referred to the parliamentary rights and privileges committee for disciplinary action.

Why so afraid to declare your wealth, Anwar asks PAS

RELATED STORY: PAS claims Islam does not allow asset declarations

PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim has criticised PAS for opposing the move to compel elected politicians to declare their wealth after the Islamist party’s president said asset declaration was a communist concept promoted by DAP.
The PKR president said PAS leaders should not be worried over the move if they had nothing to hide.
He said it was strange that PAS leaders who championed transparency “now seem to be frightened”.
“They are giving excuses that it is part of communism,” Anwar told reporters during an event in Negeri Sembilan.
Hadi reportedly said that declaring assets is a communist and socialist concept.
He said while socialism limits wealth, leaders in socialist countries are the richest.
Anwar reminded Hadi that wealth declaration is a must for politicians in Indonesia.
He said by declaring their wealth, politicians who abused their position would be exposed, including PAS leaders who have amassed land and projects in Perak, Kelantan and Terengganu.
“We will know if there is any abuse. That is the objective,” he said.
On July 1, the Dewan Rakyat approved a special motion compelling all MPs to declare their assets.
PAS and Umno MPs opposed the move, saying the government should instead amend corruption laws and make it compulsory for politicians to declare their wealth.

  1. Asset declaration is a must and compulsory for any individual entering politics to serve it's people and the country. But sad to say, majority of the politicians in Malaysia after winning the seat will help themselves n their families, relatives and friends to enrich themselves with projects in the name of development. Such is the case in Malaysia, where cronyism exist with GLC appointment where directors take home fat pay without real productive output from the company such as Malaysian Airlines which is making losses every year around which needed bail out every time.If no asset declaration, then don't take up politics. The politicians who are afraid to make known their assets are more likely to be the culprit in serving themselves by lining their own pocket then serving it's people with projects in the name of development.
