Lead by example, Hisham tells govt on asset declaration

Former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein today asked why opposition MPs should be made to declare their assets when some MPs from Pakatan Harapan (PH) have yet to do so themselves.
He said the government should lead by example, claiming that 12 PH MPs have yet to declare their assets.
He also alleged that 22 MPs from the ruling coalition have yet to declare the assets of their families, including a senator who is also a deputy minister.
Labelling the move as a “fishing expedition”, he said Putrajaya should prove its sincerity and transparency in asking for asset declarations.
Speaking to reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby here, he also asked why the government should be “fishing for our assets”.
“We are not in the government,” he said, adding that the opposition had already declared their assets to the Inland Revenue Board.
The Sembrong MP also voiced concern over plans to table a motion to lower the voting age from 21 to 18.
He said many youth might be influenced by unconfirmed information on social media.
“Once we have made the decision, there is no turning back,” he added. “If it backfires, it will be too late.”

He also urged the government to put an end to any uncertainties, including over the economy, by holding proper dialogues with the opposition. - FMT
