KUALA LUMPUR – Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah loves cooking, especially Chinese food.
Food is her favorite topic, and she is always excited talking about food.
In conjunction with the installation of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on July 30,
the Palace accepted a joint interview from the local Chinese media.
Chinese food
The Queen said, “My family cooked like this since I was young… preserved vegetable, bean paste and beef.
“I cook many different things in the Palace, food that many Chinese families will cook.
“I always use preserved vegetable, bean paste and beef to cook with an assortment of vegetables.
“Personally I’m a symbol of multiculturalism. Look at my siblings, they all have Chinese look!”
Despite the fact Tunku Azizah is the Raja Permaisuri Agong, she has been extremely approachable throughout the interview.
“I love to cook and I always cook Chinese food. I’ll cook for you the next time you come. And maybe I’ll write a cookbook.
“The title will be Recipe Dari Istana,” she paused for a second and continued, “By Permaisuri.”
She explained humorously why she had invited the Chinese media to the Palace.
“I told the people in the Palace I’ll tell the Chinese press I have Chinese lineage. And there’ll be three whole pages on newspapers tomorrow. Just kidding!
“That’s why I invited the Chinese media. If tell this to the other newspapers, maybe there’ll be only one paragraph.
“I told the attendants and bodyguards to wait outside. I don’t want them here because I want to be able to talk to you freely.”
Ling Ling

Tunku Azizah said she herself had plenty of Chinese friends.
Other than Guangzhou, she also hopes to visit Shanghai one day.
“Let me tell you I really want to go to Shanghai. I have been to Beijing and Hong Kong but not Shanghai.”
She also said her favorite book was The Soong Sisters
“The three sisters were Mei Ling, Qing Ling and Ai Ling.
“And I am Ling Ling. Haha!”
