Longer life expectancy for girls in Malaysia


 A newborn in 2019 is expected to live an average of 74.5 years with girls expected to live longer than boys, according to the Statistics Department.

KUALA LUMPUR:  A newborn in 2019 is expected to live an average of 74.5 years with girls expected to live longer than boys, according to the Statistics Department.

Its chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr.Mohd Uzir Mahidin said on Tuesday a newborn girl in 2019 is expected to live longer up to 77.3 years as compared to boy,  72.2 years.

He said this in the department's publication on Abridged Life Tables, Malaysia, 2017-2019. This report presents the life tables by age, ethnic group and sex for all states in Malaysia for 2017 to 2019.

Mohd Uzir also said: “Chinese continues to register the highest life expectancy at birth in 2019 with 77.3 years followed by Bumiputera
(73.3 years) and Indians (71.8 years)”.

The department reported Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest life expectancy at birth compared to other states with 76.7 years. 

The highest life expectancy at birth for males was recorded by Sarawak with 74.6 years whereas for females was recorded by Kuala Lumpur with 79.2 years.- Star
