Man assaults grandma-in-law because his own daughter was crying

JASIN: A 69-year-old woman from Batang Melaka here sustained serious facial injuries after she was assaulted by her grandson-in-law because she did not immediately stop her great-granddaughter – the suspect's own daughter – from crying.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Arshad Abu not only the 69-year-old victim was hit mercilessly by the 24-year-old suspect.
"This poor woman was beaten and berated with derogatory remarks," he said on Tuesday (July 16).
DSP Arshad said in the incident, which occurred at around 6am on July 15, the victim was at home when the eight-month-old girl started crying.

He explained that at the time, the victim was answering the call of nature and could not attend to the child immediately.

This, he said, caused the child's father to become agitated and the assault ensued.
DSP Arshad said the victim, a school canteen worker, passed out when she was hit.
"Soon after assaulting her, the suspect fled with his wife and child," he said.
He said that the suspect is unemployed and the victim was supporting him with her RM250 monthly salary.
DSP Arshad said the Jasin Hospital referred the victim to the Melaka Hospital to be checked by an eye specialist, adding that she was at risk of losing her eyesight due to the seriousness of her injuries.
He said police detained the perpetrator in Bachang here at 11pm the same day.
He said the man had two previous criminal records for drug abuse.
"He also tested positive for drugs when we screened him," he said, adding that the case is being probed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.- Star
