Nga urges Zambry to apologise to Perak speaker for 'disrespectful' tweet

IPOH: Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming (pic, left) urges former mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir (pic, right) to apologise to the state assembly speaker for posting an allegedly disrespectful tweet.
He said Slim assemblyman Datuk Khusairi Abdul Talib should also apologise for re-tweeting Zambry's statement.
Zambry had tweeted on Tuesday (July 23) that it was the "worst day in the history of the Perak state assembly" after a motion was passed compelling all assemblymen and their immediate family members to declare their assets, which he attributed as "the speaker's decision".
Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham is the Perak state assembly speaker.
In the tweet, Zambry also suggested that such an asset declaration should be made to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) instead.
He said that because the speaker was a politician, he suggested that a bipartisan committee should discuss the matter.
Zambry also claimed this was done in a "dictatorship-like" manner.
Nga, who is also Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, claimed Zambry's tweet made slanderous accusations against the speaker.
"The motion is approved by the assembly, not the speaker.
"So unless he (Zambry) can deny that is his tweet, he should apologise within 24 hours or face action by the rights and privileges committee," he added.
On Tuesday (July 23), the assembly approved a motion compelling all assemblymen and their family members to declare their assets.
The Opposition, however, questioned why they were required to declare their assets to the speaker when it was adequate to make it to the MACC.
Before adjourning the assembly, Ngeh said he had read the Zambry's tweet.
He said the motion brought forward by Pasir Berdamar assemblyman R.N. Terence Naidu, was approved by the assembly through a vote, and not by him.
"There are laws, rules, and regulations in place. It is not right to challenge the sovereignty of the assembly.
"I hope the necessary will be carried out by those involved, otherwise further action will be taken," he added.- Star
