No clear promises, but meeting was positive - TBH Trust

MACC Chief Commissioner Latheefa Koya was unwilling to reveal if there is an internal investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock due to the sensitivity of the case, said Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy.

Four members of the trust finally got to meet Latheefa at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya this morning, after they handed over a memorandum calling for action against five MACC officers at Parliament three days ago.

The trust handed over the same memorandum to Latheefa during the meeting.

After an hour of discussion, TBH Trust chief Ng Geok Chee told the media that the meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere.

However, Latheefa had been reluctant to reveal any details due to the sensitivity of the case, Ng said.

“No doubt we achieved nothing much. But at least, we are quite happy that her response was quite positive.

“She agreed to seriously look into the matter, but due to the sensitivity of the case, she can’t divulge what is going to be done or has been done,” she added.

Ng said they were quite happy with Latheefa's attitude.

“She appeared to be very sincere, given that she has been in office for just 40 days. I think we have to be fair to her when the country is facing so many big cases.”

Even though there were no clear promises from Latheefa (photo), Ng felt the MACC head had actually meant something (regarding the case).

“(Though) she had not promised anything, at the same time we felt she had meant something.

“We understand that the moment you reveal your action, there will be another counteraction. So I understand her predicament. We just leave it to her good self to decide what is the best and when to reveal it,” Ng added.

The trust pledged to return to the MACC headquarters again if there is still no progress in the case after Latheefa’s 100th day in office.

“We told (her) usually the honeymoon period is 100 days. If (during that time) nothing has been done, we will come back again,” Ng said.

She added that Latheefa had promised that MACC will fully cooperate with the police investigation if the need arises.

Teoh was found dead after falling nine floors from the former Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009.

TBH Trust demanded that the government suspends the five MACC officers, then-Selangor state deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim, investigating officer Mohamad Anuar Ismail and officers Hairul Ilham Hamzah, Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus and Zulkefly Aziz.

The trust also called on the government to investigate and charge the five MACC officers under Section 302 (murder) or 304 (culpable homicide) of the Penal Code. - Mkini
