PKR assemblyperson grilled for 90 minutes over sex video

Police questioned a PKR state assemblyperson for more than an hour in relation to the sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
Federal CID director Huzir Mohammed said the 34-year-old politician's statement was recorded from 10am to 11.30am at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
He also revealed that the remand order for a suspect detained on July 19 in connection with the case has been extended for another two days until Wednesday.
The suspect's initial three-day remand expired today.
Earlier, Malaysiakini quoted Huzir as confirming that the assemblyperson was summoned for questioning.
Although he declined to confirm the identity of the politician, it is believed that was Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi.
Previously, Najwan told Malaysiakini that he was not involved in the sex video after his name cropped up following the revelation by Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador that a Selangor assemblyperson is also on their radar.
"This is unfounded... this is a social media mind game that aims to threaten the party and create division," said the 34-year-old politician.
Najwan was formerly aligned to Azmin's faction in PKR but broke off and contested as a third-force in last year's party polls for the post of Youth chief.
During the contest, he was backed by Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz - the individual who alleged that he was the person indulging in sexual acts with Azmin in the video.
Last week, Hamid said that while the video is most likely authentic, the facial recognition process, however, failed to link the minister to the recording.
The police chief also revealed that a leader of a political party was the mastermind behind the video and hundreds of thousands of ringgit were spent to produce it.
Among those detained included Haziq and Anwar's political secretary.
Speculation had been rife that the video is linked to the tussle for the prime minister's post in light of claims that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad preferred Azmin to succeed him, despite the Pakatan Harapan agreement that Anwar would inherit the leadership reins.
Anwar has denied involvement in the sex video. - Mkini
