PSC meeting with Latheefa only for admin purposes, says MP

Santubong MP Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
KUALA LUMPUR: Santubong MP Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says the meeting between anti-graft chief Latheefa Koya and the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Major Public Appointments today is only for administrative purposes.
“It is to satisfy the reform agenda,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, adding that it would be “a waste of government time and money” to grill Latheefa on her appointment as this is beyond the PSC’s powers.
The meeting is expected to take place at 2.30pm. PSC chairman William Leong had confirmed that several issues pertaining to Latheefa’s appointment as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner would be raised.
Latheefa was an active politician before her appointment by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Her appointment to MACC was questioned by various quarters who said it should have been vetted by the PSC.
However, Wan Junaidi said Mahathir was right to appoint Latheefa as it was within his jurisdiction.
“The prime minister was right to appoint her without referring to the PSC unless the laws were amended to refer senior appointments to select committees,” he said. - FMT
