Putrajaya not giving up on Pulau Batu Puteh, to file review

PARLIAMENT | The government will still take up its bid to review the International Court of Justice's decision on the Pulau Batu Puteh dispute, said Deputy Foreign Minister Marzuki Yahya.
"About Pulau Batu Puteh, we are still committed - and I've also mentioned earlier - we will file a judicial review over the status of Pulau Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
"We will proceed with it," he told the Dewan Rakyat in response to a question from Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian) who sought confirmation from the government on whether it had dropped the case.
The ICJ had last year said it was informed by Malaysia that the country was withdrawing its review bid, which hearing initially set on June 11, 2018.
The announcement was made on June 1 last year, less than a month after Pakatan Harapan won power, but the ICJ did not mention when it received the notice from Malaysia.
Then attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali was made to go on leave on May 14 last year and the new attorney-general, Tommy Thomas, was only appointed on June 4 that year.
Malaysia and Singapore had taken the dispute to the ICJ, which in 2008 ruled that Singapore had sovereignty over Pulau Batu Puteh.
It also addressed two other maritime feature near Pulau Batu Puteh, ruling that Batuan Tengah belonged to Malaysia but did not give a definitive ruling on Tubir Selatan. - Mkini
